Rich Lowry: Obama proclamation dumbs down Thanksgiving

Rich Lowry: Obama proclamation dumbs down Thanksgiving

If Abraham Lincoln released his October 1863 Thanksgiving proclamation today, it would be panned by all sides. In the statement that is considered the beginning of the unbroken annual tradition of presidential Thanksgiving proclamations, Lincoln said that God had dealt “with us in anger for our sins.” He recommended “humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience.”

The words “sin” and “perverse” would set off the Left as overly judgmental and embarrassingly archaic. The Right would bristle at national self-criticism from the country’s commander-in-chief (at a time of war, no less).

TONY DIGIROLAMO
AS WE ALL KNOW THE MERE MENTION OF SIN IN TODAYS CULTURE IS LOOKED UPON WITH DISDAIN AND A BUNCH OF OTHER DISSES. REMEMBER THE DEMOCRAT NATIONAL CONVENTION.
GOD IS IN THE PLATFORM, OUT AND THEN VOTED IN THE PLATFORM... YEA OR NAY WHO COULD TELL?! THEN IN FULL VIEW BY A NATION NOT ASTONISHED APPARENTLY BY THAT VOICE VOTE THAT BOOED GOD... AND QUICKLY COVERED IT UP.
These people are phonies when expressing the blessings of God when in reality they demand changes in His Precepts and the Commandments he so urges us to keep.
Abortion, homosexuality, Same Sex Marriage are the issues Americans so embraced by the reelection and rejection of those who would dare to utter God-speak.
I urge my fellow Americans to look at God's Word and realize for whatever selfish reason you voted for the above.
Here is a Word we all should ponder in our hearts this Thanksgiving, Colossians 2:8: See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
That, I am sure, Abraham Lincoln would have no problem advancing.
