Use of antidepressants in pregnancy

Use of antidepressants in pregnancy

Given recent news coverage about the use of antidepressants during pregnancy and the possible links to birth defects, I feel an obligation to families and care providers to respond to this concern.

As the medical director of the Pregnancy Risk Line, I have noted a remarkable increase in the number of calls from worried mothers, their family members and health care providers about antidepressant use during pregnancy and while breast-feeding.

TONY DIGIROLAMO- ALERT: I'LL LET DR ANN BLAKE TRACY SPEAK TO THIS ARTICLE'S LIES.
I did not see this article when it first came out. I ran across it today searching for the LONG list of birth defects being litigated in courts for a UT mother who has a 15 year old daughter who has suffered many of these effects since birth. Due to the irresponsibility of the press & medical community in UT she had never been made aware of any of this! This article written in complete denial is a perfect example of why she has never heard any of this before! The medical answer for this young girl's problems now? Put her on Prozac at age 15 & ignore the toxic effects she had before birth from her mother's use of the drug!! Unbelievable!

While living in West Jordan a few years ago within a five block area there we're TWO babies who were rushed in for open heart surgery at birth due to their mothers being on antidepressants! How does that fit with your stats doc? This was the real life laboratory you & your collegues have turned the state of Utah into! I love how you ignore the worst of these birth defects that are far too common!

What about the research that demonstrates a FOUR times greater rate of Autism in babies born to moms on thes drugs with Utah's rates of Autism highest by far than any other state in the nation? But if you are a drug company covering your "bottom line" you have to make sure you keep the patients unaware long enough for their statue of limitations to run out so they cannot file suit right? You know how the game is played. Why not grow a conscious and admit it to those who have babies suffering & dying as a result of this? Try toothpicks. They might work to keep your eyes open to this issue while you fight so hard to keep them tightly shut! There really is no excuse! You feel an "obligation to families" or your collegues & potential future employer - the Pharma industry?
