The Bible is the greatest 'self-help' book ever written

The Bible is the greatest 'self-help' book ever written

By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
My Answer

Q: Can you recommend some self-help books that might help me get my life together? I have a lot of problems I can't seem to overcome. People tell me just to try harder, but that doesn't get me anywhere. -- C.H.

A: Yes, I'd like to recommend to you the greatest "self-help" book ever written: the Bible! Every other self-help book will only give you the author's ideas, but the Bible gives you God's wisdom on how to live. Can you think of anything more important?

REVEREND BILLY GRAHAM AND I ARE ON THE SAME PAGE! HERE'S ONE FROM THE GREATEST SELF HELP BOOK AS HE PUT IT:
Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
We went through the mid 20th century to the present with some authors who sold millions of dollars on "self help"books. Some who have even changed their techniques for counseling because it was in error. Yet the books they wrote years ago in error are still for sale at their websites.
I could put names to this, Christian authors as well but the very big book that became the bible for raising kids Dr Benjamin Spock.
From article: HOW DR. SPOCK DESTROYED AMERICA, Reb Bradley asserts author's child-care book cultivated narcissism in millions
01/27/2009
"Even Dr. Spock was aware of his negative influence upon parents. In a 1968 interview with the New York Times, Spock admitted that his first edition of “Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care” contributed to an increase of permissive parenting in America. “Parents began to be afraid to impose on the child in any way,” he said. In his 1957 edition, he tried to remedy that by emphasizing the need for setting standards and asking for respect. Unfortunately, Spock failed to see the deeper problems of his philosophy, so subsequent editions continued to cultivate narcissism."
Look, the label for these books called "self help"implies you don't need God. And that is what is happening in the nation of the secular world view and self. These books have contributed greatly to the horrors we face today.
Yes Billy Graham is correct here and the need to draw nearer to God and His Word is the answer. We have a whole generation to turn around before it gets better.

Come to Philadelphia, Sept 28 and 29th, AmericaforJesus2012 and pray with Christians who are coming from all across the land to pray for the nation. It will be right there on the steps of Independence Hall and the grounds where our founding fathers walked and prayed.
